The Statue of Liberty is a symbol of American history and a major tourist attraction, attracting more than three million visitors per year. The statue was designed in 1870 by French sculptor Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi, a French sculptor. The project took 8 years to complete and funding was made possible thanks to public funds, various forms of entertainment and a lottery. The statue was built in France and its transport to New York took several weeks. It measures 46 meters tall and rests on a base where the words "give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free" are engraved.

La statue a été suggérée par le juriste, homme politique français et militant anti-esclavagiste, Édouard-René Lefebvre de Laboulaye, qui a voulu ériger un monument à la gloire des droits humains ainsi que de renforcer la relation franco-américaine. En effet, elle représente un symbole des libertés fondamentales dont jouissent les citoyens des États-Unis. Fait intéressant, le buste de la Statue de la Liberté était exposé au Champ-de-Mars à Paris, lors de l'Exposition Universelle de 1878.

The statue was suggested by the French jurist, politician and abolitionist militant, Édouard-René Lefebvre de Laboulaye, who wanted to erect a monument to the glory of human rights as well as to reinforce the Franco-American relationship. Indeed, it represents a symbol of the fundamental freedoms enjoyed by the citizens of the United States. An interesting fact, the Statue of Liberty's head was exhibited at Champ-de-Mars in Paris during the Universal Exposition of 1878.

La construction du monument s’est faite à Paris avant son transport vers les Etats-Unis en plusieurs étapes : les bras en 1876, la tête en 1878 et la statue entière en 1885. Les différentes parties ont ensuite été montées sur le socle de granit, en place depuis 1886. La structure est en acier et en cuivre, ce dernier donnant à la statue sa teinte verte.

The construction of the monument was done in Paris before its transportation to the United States in several steps: the arms in 1876, the head in 1878 and the entire statue in 1885. The various parts were then mounted on the granite pedestal, in place since 1886. The structure is made of steel and copper, the latter giving the statue its green hue.
